About moMENtum.
Momentum is a peer support organisation for adult male survivors of childhood sexual abuse.
Our purpose is to meet as equals, support one another to talk openly and honestly about abuse, and the effects that abuse has had on us. We do this in order to gain a better understanding of ourselves and of one another, as well as sharing information and resources.
In order to create a safe and supporting recovery environment, we mutually agree to:
No alcohol
No drugs
No physical violence/aggressive behaviour/aggressive language towards one another
No sexual contact
No discriminatory language or behaviour based on ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, age, religion or disability
The meetings are confidential, in order to protect the identity and honour the confidentiality of other group members. We only share ‘our own story’ and ‘our own experiences’ with others when outside the room.
As helpful & enabling guidelines:
Any supportive physical contact is to be ‘offered & agreed/or not agreed’
Don’t rush to the rescue. Allow people to feel their feelings and as necessary ‘cry out their pain’.
If you need to leave the circle, please don’t initially leave the building. Someone will come and offer you support.
If you can, come back to the circle and re-orientate yourself. If you feel it to be helpful, share what you have done and learned.
